Nicaragua calls out Germany’s “double-dealings” on Israel-Gaza war

THE HAGUE, Apr 8: Nicaragua has lodged a complaint against Germany at the United Nations’ top court, alleging that the latter engages in double-dealing sin the Israel-Gaza war.

Nicaragua accuses Germany of supplying weapons to the Israeli government while simultaneously providing aid to Gaza.

“It is indeed a pathetic excuse to the Palestinian children, women and men in Gaza to provide humanitarian aid, including through airdrops, on the one hand, and to furnish the weapons and military equipment that are used to kill and annihilate them on the other hand,” Daniel Mueller, a lawyer for Nicaragua, said in a speech here on Monday.

Another lawyer, Alain Pellet, emphasized that Germany is acutely aware of the potential risk associated with the weapons it has supplied and continues to supply to Israel.

Pellet suggested that these arms could potentially be used to perpetrate genocide.

“It is extremely urgent that Germany finally suspend “such aid” to Israel.

“Germany was and is fully conscious of the risk that the arms it has furnished and continues to furnish to Israel,” could be used to commit a genocide” he said when met by reporters at the Hague.

Germany will respond in court on Tuesday but has already responded against the accusations, as its foreign ministry spokesman Sebastian Fischer informed reporters that the country firmly denies the allegations made by Nicaragua.

“Germany has not violated either the genocide convention or international humanitarian law, and they intend to fully demonstrate this before the International Court of Justice,” said Fischer.

Nicaragua has petitioned for five provisional measures, one of which demands that Germany promptly halt its aid to Israel, specifically military assistance, including military equipment.

Additionally, Nicaragua has also urged the court to instruct Germany to rescind its decision to suspend funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency For Palestine refugees (UNRWA). -TVS
