KUCHING, Apr 2: Satok Assemblyman Dato Ibrahim Baki condemned in the strongest terms the incident at KK Mart Jalan Satok, where it was firebombed on Sunday.
Calling the attack an attempt at terrorism, he called for the public to remain calm and to not speculate on the matter.
“The police and the authorities are to take stern action and track down the perpetrator in this case.
“Domestic attacks on premises using incendiary devices in Sarawak is unheard of and this has never been our culture,“ he said in a statement on WhatsApp today.
Ibrahim added that citizens of Sarawak and Malaysia in general should abide by the rule of law, and to not take the law into their own hands.
According to him, Sarawak has demonstrated time and time again to be a model state in terms of unity among its diverse community.
“That being said, given similar attacks in various parts of country, it has tested our unity and resolve as Malaysians and now the community in Sarawak,” he said.
The incident in Kuching, Sarawak is the third firebombing of KK Mart outlets following the controversy over selling socks bearing the word “Allah.”
On March 26th, a branch of the convenience store in Bidor, Perak was bombed with petrol bombs at around five in the morning, while the second incident occurred on March 30th, at KK Super Mart Sungai Isap, Kuantan Pahang, at 5:40 in the morning. -TVS
