KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia’s decree when officiating the opening of the First Meeting of the Third Session of the 15th Parliament today, underscores the importance of national unity.
Sri Aman MP, Dato Sri Doris Sophia Brodie said Sultan Ibrahim emphasizes unity in support of the Rukun Negara.
“His Majesty has also instructed the government to present a policy towards stronger unity, instilling love and loyalty to the king and country in the younger generation, and consequently support the Rukun Negara,” she said when contacted by TVS, today.
Doris said this in response to Sultan Ibrahim’s first decree in the Dewan Rakyat today.
In the King’s decree, His Majesty said that despite more than 60 years since Malaysia was formed, racial unity remains flawed due to present-day generations still struggling to fully grasp the national language and comprehend cultural practices of other ethnic groups.
As a result, His Majesty urged the government to develop policies aimed at fostering a more robust and harmonious unity among the populace.
In response to Sultan Ibrahim’s directive for MPs to exemplify decorum during debates, Doris said she fully accepted the reminder.
“(This is because) unquestionably, the Senate and the Dewan Rakyat are esteemed chambers, and it’s imperative for us (representatives) to exhibit proper behavior, uphold good conduct, and employ respectful language,” she remarked.
Doris emphasized that all the decrees issued by Sultan Ibrahim are intended to strengthen and dignify the Dewan Rakyat.-TVS
