TYT receives courtesy call from Deputy Premier, Sarawak Islamic Council

KUCHING, 9 Feb: The Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, received a courtesy call from the Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan, accompanied by the Chairman of the Sarawak Islamic Council, Datuk Misnu Taha.

The purpose of the visit was to inform and invite His Excellency to the upcoming 63rd Sarawak-level Quran Recitation and Memorisation Event for the year 1445H/2024M.

“The event, themed Sarawakku Maju Makmur, will take place from 6th March to 9th March 2024, at Dewan Suarah Limbang.

“The opening ceremony will be officiated by the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg,” said Awang Tengah when met by reporters at Astana, today.

Apart from Al-Quran recitation, the event will feature various programmes such as cooking event, tree-planting ceremony, quizzes and more.

In addition, Misnu mentioned that there are a total of 45 participants for the Quran Recitation segment.

“We have also appointed judges from across Sarawak for the recitation, and they will be in Limbang for the programme.

“Other activities, such as the cooking event, we have Chef Muluk onboard to promote and teach local cuisines,” he said.

Also in attendance during the courtesy call were the Director of the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), Datu Khalidi Ibrahim, the Resident of Limbang, Unus Tambi, the Deputy Director 1 of JAIS, Ahmad Sukarno Saini, and the Chief Assistant Director of the Corporate Communications Unit of JAIS, Kamarulzaman Kawi.

This courtesy call marks their first official visit since Tun Dr. Wan Junaidi assumed office as the Governor of Sarawak. – TVS
