KUCHING, Jan 8: Bintulu Port is scheduled for an official handover to the Sarawak Government in June 2024.
Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, said the agreement came to fruition at the Federal – State Joint Committee meeting with Transport Minister, Anthony Loke, today.
In a joint statement, the Ministry of Transport will present the Bill to repeal the Bintulu Port Authority Act 1981 in the upcoming Parliament sitting.
Uggah, who is also Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Sarawak, said that the Sarawak Government will establish the Bintulu Port Authority (Sarawak) under the Port Authority Ordinance, 1961 to ensure that the operation of Bintulu Port is not affected during the transition period.
Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed in February 2024 to finalise the Bintulu Port handover. – TVS
