InvestSarawak and Surbana Jurong strengthen green economy initiatives with Memorandum of Understanding

DUBAI, Dec 5: InvestSarawak and Surbana Jurong Infrastructure Pte Ltd, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Tuesday to further strengthen the green economy opportunities.

This MOU is a natural progression following the completion of the Master Plan for the Development of Industrial Terminals in Sarawak that Surbana Jurong did for Sarawak Government.

The Master Plan has identified challenges and opportunities for Sarawak’s industrial landscape, such as green economy opportunities and enhance and develop skillsets to equip the people of Sarawak for these new opportunities; and the implementation of a just energy transition and industrial decarbonisation projects, integrated with greenfield and brownfield industrial activities.

The MoU was inked by InvestSarawak CEO Timothy Ong Wye Ern and Surbana Jurong Infrastructure Managing Director, Enegry & Industrial Tan Wooi Leong.

The signing ceremony held at Singapore Pavilion Dubai in conjunction with the United Nation Climate Change Conference (COP28) was witnessed by Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Prior to the signing Abang Johari in his short remark said Sarawak remains as one of the most popular destinations for investment and in recent years sustainable ones in Malaysia and region at large.

“We welcome investments and collaborations, particularly in six priority sectors namely Manufacturing, Commercial Agriculture, Tourism, Forestry, Mining and Services that can create mutual benefits for all,” said the Premier

He added Sarawak is now focusing on promoting low carbon solutions, green and circular economy. We also aim to be a regional leader in innovation and high technology-based economy. With PCDS 2030, we are promoting economic prosperity, social inclusivity and environmental sustainability.

“Taking cognisance of this, Sarawak is proactive in our endeavours to ensure our growth is responsible and sustainable. In fact, the idea of Social Development Goals (SDG) and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) is embedded in Sarawak’s Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030),” he added. – TVS
