DUBAI, Dec 3: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg strategically joins global efforts against climate change, arriving today at Dubai Al Maktoum International Airport for the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP28.
His expected arrival at 2:30 pm local time positions him to play a pivotal role in discussions addressing climate change and environmental sustainability.
Abang Johari’s itinerary also includes attendance at a dinner reception hosted by the Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak (Mintred), further solidifying Sarawak’s commitment to fostering international trade and cooperation.
A key highlight during his visit is the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony scheduled for December 5, in conjunction with COP28.
This ceremony marks a collaboration between InvestSarawak and Surbana Jurong Pte Ltd. The focus areas encompass critical aspects such as industry transformation, energy transition, industrial decarbonisation, Carbon Capture, Usage and Storage (CCUS) decarbonisation, and industrial park development & management.
On December 6 (Wednesday), the Premier is slated for two crucial events. The day begins with a meeting with Mubadala Investment Company. This meeting is anticipated to foster discussions on potential collaborations and investments between Sarawak and Mubadala, reinforcing collaborative efforts within the energy transition sector.
The day concludes with the signing of an MOU between MASDAR & Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), highlighting a shared commitment to sustainable energy practices and the potential for strategic partnerships.
As the visit progresses, Abang Johari and his delegation are scheduled to depart for London on December 7 (Thursday). There, they will engage in further discussions on business investment and networking programs, emphasizing Sarawak’s dedication to expanding international partnerships and attracting investments for sustainable development.
Premier Abang Johari’s active participation in these events underscores Sarawak’s proactive stance on climate change, economic collaboration, and sustainable development.
