KUCHING, Nov 30: The police have detained a teenage woman who allegedly dumped her newborn baby girl at Bandar Baru Semariang.
Kuching District Police Chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the arrest of the 14-year-old suspect at 8pm on Wednesday.
Due to the sensitivity of the case, no further information has been disclosed.
“The baby girl, found by members of the public, was in good health.
“The baby has been sent to Sarawak General Hospital for additional medical examination and will be referred to the Sarawak Social Welfare Department for further action,” said Ashmon in a statement.
On Wednesday, the discovery went viral on social media, with photos and videos portraying the infant, still attached to the umbilical cord.
Upon hearing the baby’s cries, residents rescued her from a plastic bag in the bushes.
The infant was then brought to a nearby eatery, where measures were taken to ensure her comfort and cleanliness before she was send to SGH.
The case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code. – TVS
