DUN: Petros Niaga’s exclusive LPG distribution: No disruption to current jobs

ByLorenzo Isaac Ak Anthony

KUCHING, Nov 27: The appointment of Petros Niaga Sdn Bhd as the sole distributor of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in Sarawak effective December 1st will not affect the jobs of existing suppliers.

Minister of Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said that this transition is similar to the takeover by MYGAZ Sdn. Bhd. from SHELL in 2013.

“As such, the issue of the loss of jobs as alleged by related parties does not arise.

“My ministry is confident that Petros Niaga, with 65 dealers and 280 sub-dealers, would be able to provide ample job opportunities to Sarawakians,” he said during his ministerial winding-up session at the State Legislative Assembly today.

Julaihi assured that it is the right time for the Sarawak government-owned subsidiary to be appointed as the distributor of subsidised LPG in Sarawak, following the expiration of MYGAZ’s license on November 30.

Recently, his ministry opted against renewing the subsidised LPG license for MYGAZ, paving the way for PETROS Niaga to assume the exclusive distributorship for the subsidised LPG market, covering more than 700,000 gas cylinders across Sarawak.

“We are confident in Petros Niaga’s ability to ensure a sufficient supply of subsidised LPG and to maintain a high standard of service for Sarawak’s economic well-being,” he added. -TVS
