KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 17: Over the years, PETRONAS has sponsored more than 1,000 Sarawakians, emphasizing education as a fundamental part of its commitment to nurturing local talents.
This year alone, Petronas awarded 119 Sarawakian recipients, fostering opportunities for them to excel in their chosen fields.
Amplifying its commitment to education and human capital development, the company has made a significant impact on the region, having invested RM556 million in educational programmes in Sarawak since 1992.
“This long-standing commitment is a testament to Petronas’ unwavering belief in the immense value that Sarawak’s talents bring to the table.
“It underscores the company’s commitment to the development of Sarawak’s human capital, meeting both national needs and the ever-evolving demands of the energy industry,” said Head of Human Capital Investment, Petronas Group Human Resource Management, Syed Mohammad Muhafiz Syed Mohd Bakar when met by TVS at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
Looking forward, Syed said the company remains steadfast in its commitment to harnessing the potential of Sarawakian talents. These individuals are not only positioned to contribute to the company’s success but also to play a crucial role in influencing the wider energy industry landscape, while also advancing socioeconomic growth and human capital development in Sarawak.
“Education has always been PETRONAS’ ongoing commitment. Since 1975, PETRONAS has been investing in identifying and nurturing young talents through the PETRONAS Powering Knowledge Sponsorship programme.
“This initiative has paved the way for deserving students to pursue their ambitions, both locally and abroad, in top universities, including PETRONAS Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP),” he noted.
As such, Petronas has extended its educational sponsorship to over 38,000 Malaysians across diverse backgrounds, recognising that education is the catalyst for shaping not only individual futures but also the trajectory of the company, the energy sector, and the nation itself.
Syed pointed out that the unwavering commitment to education underscores Petronas’ belief in the transformative force of learning, essential for opening doors of opportunity and fostering economic development.
