KUCHING, Oct 11: Sarawak has full legal control over its natural resources based on the Sarawak Land Code (Amendment) 2022.
Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Information Chief, Dato Idris Buang said its resources including all carbon matters exist anywhere within, below and above Sarawak’s land.
“All carbon matters including carbon storage as well as the air space, legally coined as ‘the spectrum above Sarawak’s land including the whole of its continental shelf and all the seabed and subsoil beneath it, are inherently owned by and belong to Sarawak.
“Sarawak sovereign rights thereto has always been safeguarded by the Sarawak laws which are further protected by the Federal Constitution itself that provides autonomy for Sarawak to legislate these laws,” he said.
The statement was made as to support the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s statement when he addressed several party’s claims to carbon matters in Sarawak.
The Muara Tuang State Assemblyman stressed that other things that are under the state’s autonomy including religion, native customary rights and local government affairs should not be questioned by any parties.
Unfathomable claims he added shall not be entertained as it will disrupt the trading of green energy produced domestically for international markets.
“Demands for our green energy from Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia and Sabah show huge revenue potential for Sarawak and indirectly Malaysia.
“Therefore such unscrupulous claims to try to undermine or usurp Sarawak’s rights and governance over these matters would simply be tantamount subtly sabotaging Sarawak’s economic efforts and potentials in the eyes of investors, some of whom have located in Sarawak and many others have inked their intention to come over, with investment plans in billions of ringgit,” added Idris. – TVS
