KUCHING, Sept 29: ‘A Story of Ours: Us and Them’ a theatrical production that has been reimagined and updated to address contemporary societal issues that have emerged in the post-pandemic era.
This new rendition is the result of a collaborative effort between St. Joseph’s Family of Schools Kuching and the Sarawak Arts Council (SAC).
St. Joseph’s Family of Schools CEO, Christopher Chua conveyed his appreciation to both the Sarawak Arts Council (SAC) and the State Government for their invaluable support of the school’s production.
He added that the grant has empowered the school’s talented individuals to enhance their skills in the field of performing arts.
“We see the performing arts as an integral part of our curriculum as it helps our students to develop creative self-expressions, confidence, collaboration, problem-solving and the ability to accept and leverage feedback which are all critical life skills.
“The production will also include performances from the schools’ award-winning Chamber Choir, Chinese Orchestra, Concert Band, dancers and musicians,” he said in a statement.
The play is scheduled to take place on September 29 and 30 at the ACCPC (Archdiocesan Curia and Cathedral Pastoral Centre) located at St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Kuching.
Chua highlighted that the audience can look forward to a diverse array of acts, encompassing traditional music and dances, as well as contemporary pop music.
He also noted that throughout the years, St. Joseph’s Family of Schools has made a lasting impact on the local performing arts landscape.
“The schools’ music, choral and dance groups have garnered recognition for their renditions of folksongs and music which spotlights the creativity and talents of young Sarawakians and brings Sarawak’s local music to the international stage.
“All proceeds from the upcoming production will go towards the schools’ new building that will house facilities for the performing arts such as a music studio and a dance studio along with a school hall and other learning spaces which will begin construction soon,” he said.
