KUCHING, Aug 28: The Digital Economy Awards 2023 (DEA2023) promises to be more than just an event; it is a grand celebration of the visionaries leading the charge in harnessing technology for the betterment of Sarawak’s society and economy.
The accolades presented at DEA2023, including the highly coveted Premier’s Digital Economy Award, underscore the pivotal role that digital innovation plays in shaping a sustainable and prosperous future.
Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA), in a statement, emphasized that this event transcends being merely an award ceremony; it’s a celebration of the trailblazers behind digital initiatives propelling Sarawak towards a dynamic and digitally empowered future.
DEA2023 is inviting innovative ideas and groundbreaking solutions from all Sarawakians, putting them on a global stage, aligning perfectly with the vision set forth by the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS).
“This initiative demonstrates Sarawak’s unwavering commitment to becoming a guiding beacon in fostering innovation and economic advancement.
“The prestigious Premier’s Digital Economy Award is undoubtedly the highlight, carrying not just a coveted RM20,000 prize but also the allure of a gleaming trophy and an esteemed certificate.
“The spotlight extends to various other categories such as Digital Technology Transformation, Research & Development and Commercialization Award, Entrepreneurship and Startup Award, Digital Inclusivity Award, Digital Government Award, Digital Creative Content Award, Environmental Sustainability Award, and Digital Leadership Award. Winners in each of these eight categories will receive prizes worth RM10,000 each, along with a trophy and certificate,” the statement said.
Submissions for participation are open from August 28 to September 25, culminating in an awards ceremony on October 5.
Entrants are urged to present comprehensive project summaries, development strategies, and supporting documents that vividly showcase the impact and innovation of their initiatives.
An esteemed Judging Panel, comprising industry experts, will meticulously evaluate submissions based on predefined criteria.
“This year promises an amazing lineup of contenders as DEA2023 coincides with the 27th World Congress on Innovation & Technology (WCIT) 2023 and the 6th International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS) 2023.

Both events are seamlessly brought together by vibrant ideals encapsulated in dynamic themes: “Fulfilling the Promise of the Digital Age: Harnessing Innovation and Technology to Propel Economic Prosperity, Foster Social Inclusivity, and Champion Environmental Sustainability,” alongside “Pioneering the Digital Economy for the Sake of Sustainable Development.”
