KUCHING, July 11: A routine gathering for shellfish turns into a devastating incident as three men are swept away by powerful river currents at Buntal esplanade.
Sarawak Fire And Rescue Department spokesperson said one of the victims managed to survive, however the other two succumbed to the force of the river.
The department received a distress call at 12:47 am on Tuesday, alerting them to a potential drowning incident at Buntal esplanade, located along Jalan Kampung Buntal.
A rapid response team from the Petra Jaya fire station was immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, the team commenced a thorough search within a 100-meter radius of the reported location where the victims were last seen.
At 3:30 am, the operation center received information that the first victim had been found approximately 400 meters away from the initial disappearance point, by the vigilance of local villagers.
The rescue team successfully located the second victim at 3:42 am.
Both victims identified as 39-year-old Mohamad Amin Umar and 25-year-old Awang Khairul Aziq Awang Chul were pronounced dead, and their bodies have been handed over to the police for further action. – TVS
