KUCHING, June 28: Sarawak police successfully dismantled a drug-trafficking syndicate, seizing a variety of drugs valued at over RM197,000 on Sunday (June 25).
Sarawak Commissioner of Police Datuk Mohd Azman Sapri said the joint operation that took place at an entertainment centre in Padungan from 1.20 am to 6 am led to the arrest of eight individuals.
“Out of 204 checks made, 152 individuals aged between 19 until 54 years old were found positive.
“Seven suspects comprising five local men, a local woman and a foreign woman were in possession of 12 juice packets containing suspected methamphetamine powder mixture weighing around 540grammes,” he told this to reporters in a press conference at the Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters on Wednesday.
Azman also disclosed that a 30-year-old local man was identified as the supplier of the illicit substances was arrested for possessing 45 packets of juice containing suspected ecstasy powder (2.08kg), 63 ecstasy pills (25.20g) and a plastic packet containning suspected ketamine (20g).
Meanwhile, three off-duty policeman were also apprehended after found positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.
During the raid, police also seized valuables amounting RM1.17 million, namely four luxury cars, eight pieces of jewellery, three luxury handbags, five watches, 10 phones and cash worth RM30,650 and SGD 300.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. – TVS
