AUCKLAND, June 26: The Regional Islamic Da’wah Council of Southeast Asia and the Pacific (RISEAP) meeting on Monday focuses on key issue as a stepping stone towards establishing a harmonious society.
Its president, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg highlighted the potential of RISEAP as a vital network connecting member countries and promoting deeper comprehension rooted in religious responsibilities.
“Islam is the religion of peace. Therefore, our approach is more towards the good and peaceful environment involving inter-faith dialogue among religions.
“It also aims to establish harmonious society not only among RISEAP members but the philosophy behind interfaith dialogue and trust,” he said after his first meeting session with its Southern Zone’s member.
The Premier added Sarawak is a perfect exemplary of racial harmony, which he noted was its “formula” for success.
“We (Sarawak) are very fortunate because we are very experienced due to our multi-religious and multi-ethnic group but somehow we managed to share our knowledge together.
“This morning, I had the opportunity to share the experience in the meeting as well as the experience of the minority in Asia Pacific,” he added.
He expressed gratitude to the New Zealand government for establishing a “new framework of collaboration” with the Muslim community following the Christchurch incident.
Meanwhile, Federation of Islamic Association New Zealand (FIANZ) president, Ibrar Sheikh said the network serves as a good platform for the Muslim community and others to strengthen its relationship.
“We are happy to share and learn in other avenues what Sarawak and Malaysia have to offer in partnership,” he added. -TVS
