KUCHING, June 13: The Gawai Carnival Redeems is set to be on a much bigger scale this 2023.
Its president, Dato Peter Nansian said the carnival celebrates the cultural heritage and traditions of the indigenous communities in Sarawak, especially on the Gawai Dayak festival.
“The main objective is to promote and preserve the cultural traditions, rituals, music, dance, craftsand cuisine associated with the Dayak Gawai festival.
“Themed ‘Ngira’an Kimaju Adat Asal’ (We Develop and Nurture Our Culture). Not only that, it makes the Sarawak culture comparable to other cultures in the world.”
The three-days event will showcase various activities, performances and exhibitions at the Bidayuh Cultural Village in Bau, Sarawak.
Visitors can also experience the craftmanship through workshops and exhibitions.
The carnival also offers a diverse selection of traditional Sarawakian cuisines, allowing the public to indulge in an array of traditional meals, as well as raising awareness and appreciation towards its rich culture.
The highlight of the event will be the Dayang Sikora Competition Parade where they will be crowning the winner during the Dinner-Launching of the Gawai Carnival.
