KUCHING, May 24: The digital initiatives adopted by the Sarawak government is expected to contribute approximately 20% to Sarawak’s Gross Domestic Product amounting to RM56.4 billion in 2030.
Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said in realising such aspiration the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030 has been formulated as a roadmap for the state to transform its economy and society into an environmentally sustainable, technology-driven economy.
Abang Johari noted that the blueprint will be implemented in three phases as Phase one, which aims to strengthen digital readiness, will begin in 2025 to ensure a smooth transition towards phases two and three.
“Phase two and three are set to be implemented in 2027 and 2030, respectively to attract a percentage of the global digital economy to flow into Sarawak by establishing data centers, digital services delivery, and digital foreign direct investments.
“Thus, upgrading all segments of the economy to be digitally driven by 2030 via the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and frontier digital frontiers,” said Abang Johari.
He pointed out that the blueprint is anchored on five pillars, where the first pillar focuses on economic priorities and the acceleration of the digitalization of economic sectors, data monetization, and boosting economic competitiveness, specifically through digitalization.

“Transforming public sector and services to deliver efficient, secure, and trusted services and improve ease of doing business,
“Adoption of frontier technologies to enable economy-wide transformation and economic growth
“Building the foundation to accelerate digital readiness in infrastructure and connectivity, data
governance and cyber security, digital talent and skills, research, innovation, and entrepreneurship and inclusivity.” said Abang Johari during his winding-up speech at the State Legislative Assembly Sitting today.
Moreover, the Premier also emphasized that the transformation will enhance productivity, yield, and efficiency and is projected to create more than 45,000 new high-paying jobs, with 80% of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) adopting digitalisation. -TVS
