KUCHING, JAN 2: An outing of three friends at Sungai Rayu,Matang, turns into tragedy when one of them is critically injured from drowning.
According to sources, the 24-year-old victim identified as Chai Zhen Yu is now battling his life at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
Chai and Foo Teck Kuan, 20 were unconscious when rescued by the public while, Foo Teck Ewe who was the first to be rescued was conscious and unharmed, all three victims were rushed by the public to the hospital for medical attention.
However, Teck Kuan managed to regain consciousness was then admitted to the Red Zone over suspected fluids in his lung.
Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) spokesperson said the group, consisting of three male youth, went for a dip at the said stream around noon on Monday (Jan 2) when the incident occurred.
“The team was making their way to the scene when they were stopped by members of the public with one of the victim identified as Chai onboard, the victim was then transferred to the EMRS ambulance and rescuers then perfomed early medical attention as it made its way to SGH.
“The victim was later handed over to the hospital for further treatment,” the spokesperson said. – TVS
