KUCHING, Dec 6: Sarawak is slated to become the biggest economic power in Malaysia by 2030, according to Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.
In regard to this, he called on Sarawakians working overseas to collectively contribute to Sarawak’s economic development.
“Right now, we are the third largest economy in the country, no question about it, while the second largest is Selangor which has a state budget of RM2.45 billion.
“Meanwhile Sarawak, in 2018 had a state budget of RM5 billion to RM6 billion, but this year, it had been increased to RM11 billion,” he said.
He said this when speaking at the 20th Anniversary Celebration of PC Image Sdn Bhd and Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) Awards Ceremony here, last night.
Thus, he said, the people need to be aware of the government’s direction and trajectory, especially in terms of business opportunities for entrepreneurs that could contribute to Sarawak’s economy.
Previously, Dr Sim witnessed the handing over of MBOR certificate of recognition to PC Image Sdn Bhd on its achievement as ‘Malaysia’s Biggest Computer Outlet’ and the momentous occasion skyrocketed the organisation as one of the country’s leading computer retail franchises.
