KUCHING, Nov 14: Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen is either very forgetful, or feigns forgetfulness when it comes to the fact that Pakatan Harapan (PH) canceled projects in Sarawak shortly after becoming the federal government.
This was alleged by Chief Political Secretary to the Premier Of Sarawak, Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman in response to Chong’s statement, challenging Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leaders to name federal-funded projects that the PH government had canceled.
“It is disappointing and saddening to see that the DAP and the Pakatan Harapan are resorting to denial and washing their hands of their sins to the people of Sarawak when comes to fishing for their votes in the 15th General Election,” Fazzrudin, who is also N.6 Tupong Assemblyman, said in a media statement.
He stressed that the fact of the matter is, the projects were indeed canceled, but a number of them were continued instead by the state government.
Fazzrudin asserted that in 2018, Chong admitted PH canceled the projects and tried to spin it by labeling the desperately needed infrastructure projects as “hot air projects.”
“This was after he failed to fulfil his own promise of getting this projects continued, saying that he will bring it up personally to his party boss, then DAP secretary-general and finance minister Lim Guan Eng, to get these projects continued.”
Fazzrudin also said that in 2019, Chong not only once again admitted that the projects were canceled, but also insulted the people of Sarawak by telling them not to be ‘crybabies’ about it.
“I ask Chong, does he now admit that these projects were cancelled? Was it not him who told the people of Sarawak to not be a ‘crybaby’ over the cancelled projects?” Fazzrudin said.
Fazzrudin finished by saying as far as the Sarawakian people are concerned, they do not forgive nor forget DAP and PH over their harsh treatment of Sarawak, despite their denial. – TVS
