KUCHING, Oct 17: Turkey is expanding its investigation into the coal mine explosion that killed 41 workers.
Initial investigation of the case showed the existence of methane in the state-owned facility in Bartin might have caused the firedamp.
“The reasons of this explosion and the people responsible for it, if any, will be revealed with an administrative and judicial investigation.
“These investigations have already been initiated in a multifaceted manner.
“Our priority was to reach the workers trapped underground. We have finally taken out the 41st miner,” said Turkish president Tayyip Erdogan who made a visit to the site on Sunday.
A total of 58 out of 110 miners survived the 6.15 pm incident on Friday (October 14th).
In 2014, 301 miners were killed in the country’s worst-ever mining disaster, which occurred in the western town of Soma, Istanbul. -TVS
