KUCHING, Oct 12: Sarawak will be the first in the country to set up the State Social Wellbeing Index (SSWI) to indicate the social wellness of the state and establish a benchmark for social wellbeing.
Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Minister Dato Sri Abdullah said that this will serve as evidence to support policy interventions when carrying out policies and programmes.
“SSWI is made up of 10 pillars namely Family Institution, Capacity Building, Social Harmony, Housing, Social Space and Infrastructure, Good Governance and Practices, Social Responsibility, Environmental Sustainability, Social Health, and Public Safety.
“Overall, there are a total of 25 domains and 79 sub- domains, each with its own benchmark,” Fatimah said this in her speech at the closing ceremony of the National Symposium Psychology and Wellbeing (SKeP 2022) at UNIMAS here today.
Fatimah also revealed that a total of 1,581 respondents have taken part in the study during a timeframe of 25 June 2019 to 24 June 2020 in collaboration with Universiti Malaya (UM).
“Sarawak achieved a satisfactory level at 6.21 out of 10 scores with family institution recorded the highest at 7.24.
“While age groups between 55 to 65 years old recorded the highest at 6.43 compared to other age groups and Melanau recorded the highest with 6.78 compared to other ethnicities,” added Fatimah.
Fatimah disclosed that the index are measured by using three numerical rating scale starting from low (0 to 4), satisfactory (5 to 7) and high (8 to 10). – TVS
