KUCHING, Oct 12 : Sarawak will conduct holistic research on the state’s preparedness towards ageing population.

Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said the research conducted is crucial as Sarawak is expected to reach such population by 2028.

“The data recorded in the State Social Wellbeing Index (SSWI), we have found out that the age group of 55 to 65 are the most happiest. They have recorded a score of 6.78 out of 10 in 2019.

“From this data, we can analyse on the preparedness and needs. The research is important for us to see the preparedness and how we address the gaps, to be able to formulate policies, and address short-term and long-term gaps,” she told reporters after officiating the closing ceremony of the National Symposium of Psychology and Wellbeing (SKeP 2022) in UNIMAS here today.

Meanwhile, Fatimah revealed that the study will be conducted once in two years next year since the latest data recorded was in 2019.

“My ministry is working hard in the effort to offer welfare and social support system for our elderly. Hence, we want to see other needs catered for the elderly group,” Fatimah added. – TVS
