KUCHING, Oct 11 : It’s a cliché among many that bad weather on polling day reduces voter turnout, as the 15th General Election (GE15) coincide with the year-end monsoon.
However, voters in Serian are adamant to cast their ballots even at the height of the monsoon season.
“I’m sure the Election Commission (EC) will know what to do if the situation gets worse.
“For Serian, I think it will not be much of a problem. Even if there are floods, it will mostly last for a day or two,” said Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn.
The Tarat assemblyman said this in response to a query from members of the media at a press conference after the opening ceremony of the 12th Asian Conference on Lactic Acid Bacteria (ACLAB12) here, today.
Roland, who is also state Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) said that weather patterns are unpredictable in recent years.
“Perhaps this is all due to climate change. It is actually quite difficult to predict whether it will really rain or not during polls.
“Although we have some dry seasons, but now it has become really unpredictable. You may even have rain during the dry season and you can have dry season during the monsoon season,” he said. – TVS
