KUCHING, Sept 24 : A street in Guro City has been rechristened “KuchingSouth-Ro” by the Guro City to commemorate the city’s friendship with Kuching South City Council (MBKS).
The bond of friendship between the two cities was forged in 2012, and the renaming of the road after Kuchingsouth-ro was intended to mark the 10th anniversary of its friendship.
Deputy Premier Dato Sri Sim Kui Hian accompanied by MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng were presented to witness the unveiling ceremony held on Thursday.
Dr Sim expressed his gratitude saying that the renaming gesture was a sign of appreciation for the strong friendship enjoyed by both cities over the years.
” “KuchingSouth – Ro” a historical milestone, putting Kuching in the street map of Seoul forever. Probably the first City Council in ASEAN that was honoured as a street name in Seoul.
“Is beyond honoured of naming Kuching South as a street name but reflects the close relationships of Friendship City between Guro Gu City Council and Kuching City South (MBKS) in Government-Government, cultural, business, education, fire rescue services and many more meaningful exchanges,” he said through his social media posting recently.
Meanwhile, Wee noted that for the past 10 years, the synergy between MBKS and Guro City have established social, cultural and economic links and thus, the friendship has contributed direct benefits locally, regionally and nationally through trade and tourism.
“In 2019, when I took over as the Mayor of MBKS, that is the first friendship city that I visited.
“Through our meeting in 2019, Guro City agreed to name a road Kuching South Ro in enhancing the relationship and to mark the 10th anniversary of our friendship cities this year,” he said in a statement. – TVS
