LONDON, Sept 15: Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin, accompanied by honour guards, began its journey to Westminster Hall from Buckingham Palace on Wednesday (September 14).
The coffin was followed by Elizabeth’s children, King Charles III, Prince Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward, as well as Charles’ sons Prince William and Prince Harry.
Once at Westminster Hall, the coffin will be carried inside by soldiers from the Grenadier Guards and placed on a catafalque, where members of the public will be able to view it until the funeral on September 19.
Mourners hoping to be among the first to see Queen Elizabeth’s II coffin lying in state camped out along the Thames and near Buckingham Palace on Wednesday despite rainy weather.
Supermarket worker from Southampton Richard Wallis, 54, said he had been camping out since 6 p.m. (1700GMT) the previous day.
Brenda from Southend, 79, said she could remember the queen‘s coronation in 1953, and that she had come to London “to pay homage” to the queen and everything she had done. -TVS
