KUCHING, 11 Aug :  A foul odour that lingered since Wednesday has led to the discovery of a decomposed body, at Kampung No 6, Jalan Pantingan.

Acting Kuching district police chief Supt Merbin Lisa said deceased identified as Tan Phoo Leng, 80-years-old, who hailed from Jalan Nanas, matched a missing person report on August 9.

He added that police have also informed the deceased’s family.

“No foul play were found on the victim’s body and the case has been classified as sudden death,” he said in a statement.

The body was clad in flowery shirt and turqoise pants was fished out at 1:57 pm from the Sarawak River and sent to the Sarawak General Hospital morgue via a police truck at 2.23 pm.

An eye witness Fatimah Atin Rahmat said that the lingering smell was significantly present since Wednesday evening, but couldn’t identify its source.

Another witness, Matthies Dominic attached to a cleaning company noted that he and his colleagues were in the midst of cleaning the river when they stumble upon an object that resembled a human body and later alerted the police. -TVS
