KUCHING, 23rd June: Bayern Munich on Wednesday (June 22) completed the much-anticipated signing of Senegal forward Sadio Mane from Liverpool on a three-year contract, the German champions told reporters in Munich.
Bayern, who won a record-extending 10th straight league title last season, has reportedly agreed on a transfer worth about 40 million euros ($42.10 million), including add-ons, for the 30-year-old, who had a year left on his Liverpool contract.
“The option for me was the best even though I had other offers. But for me, I think Bayern Munich is the right club and the right moment for me to move on,” Mane said during his official presentation.
The 30-year-old leaves Anfield after 269 appearances, having scored 120 goals in all competitions, a stellar return that helped the club to the Champions League title in 2018-19 and the Premier League crown a season later.
Mane was one of the first signing during Jurgen Klopp’s era, forming a lethal and fearsome combination with Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.
The trio were considered the best attacking force in Europe such was their chemistry and ability to punish the opposition time and time again, winning every major trophies at club level domestically and in Europe.
In that time they’ve made a combined 731 appearances between them, scoring an incredible 338 goals, with Salah leading the charge.
The forward became Bayern’s third signing of the close season, following the arrivals of Ajax Amsterdam duo Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazrouai.
“I am very happy to finally be at Bayern Munich,” Mane said, adding “I believe one hundred percent that we can achieve big, big things.”
Bayern Munich CEO, Oliver Kahn has expressed his delight over Sadio’s arrival, citing the world-class player’s arrival will ensure high competition within the club.
“When he has the opportunity he mostly scores. He is an absolute professional and this is something that fascinated me from the start. He is ambitious, he is hungry, he wants to win titles which is why he has come exactly to the right club,” Oliver said. -TVS
