KUCHING, May 26 : Sarawak has mineral revenues from mineral resources to yet to be discovered deposits.
With the potential to lure investment of about RM6.7 billion from the mining industry, from both the midsteam and downstream by 2030.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan pointed out that a total of 5,300 job opportunities in various fields and expertise including an economic spinoff with a value of more than RM3.5 billion annually within the Sarawak market.
In realising this, the state government has approved RM15 million to study the availability of mineral and natural resources in Sarawak, which cover a total of 2,616,422 hectares of unexplored land, in order to complete the Sarawak’s initial mineral data.
“We’ve set three main agendas to expedite the mining industry under our Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) which consist of Strengthening State Minerals Management Authority (SMMA), Developing Geological Mapping and Streamlining Mining Activities.
“Under these initiative, a total of 13 main action plans and 59 sub-action plan have been developed to be implemented from 2022 to 2030,” said by Second Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development, in delivering his ministerial winding-up speech at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting.
The plan has been executed since February this year, through the establishment of Mineral and Geoscience Sources Department.
Tengah stressed that it is the government’s concern on the upstream activities as it is closely related to the environment.
“Therefore, the state government will ensure that all efforts undertaken in regards to mining will adhere to all the laws and regulations,” added Tengah. – TVS
