KUCHING, May 25: State Transport Minister, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, said the issue on the increase of transport and logistics cost is a global issue, and is not merely confined to Malaysia or Sarawak.
In his rebuttal to Padungan assemblyman, Chong Chieng Jen, in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting on May 24th, he said the issues are due to the disruption in global supply chain due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
“Since this issue is not restricted just to Sarawak, he should have brought up the issue in the recent Dewan Rakyat sitting,” Lee said to Chong, who is also the Stampin MP.
He said Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government will always seek the input of the affected industry players to come up with the best solution.
“This is the way the GPS Government operates that is to engage with the stakeholders first to find out the real issue rather than making sweeping statement to gain cheap publicity,” he stressed.
Lee added that the Ministry of Transport Sarawak (MOTS) has always been in constant engagement with the transport industry players especially from the logistics and forwarding companies.
“In fact, MOTS, through the Sarawak Public Transport Committee Meeting scheduled to be held in June 2022, will deliberate on this issue,” he said.- TVS
