KUCHING, May 24: Sarawak is on the quest for regional and global education hub.
Ministry for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, is launching The Study Sarawak Programme which will become a platform for higher learning institutions in Sarawak to engage with current and future students.
“My Ministry is embarking on a programme to promote Sarawak as a regional higher education hub.
“It aims to emulate the success of “Study UK” and “Study Melbourne” in attracting students to study in those countries,” said its minister Datuk Roland Sagah Wee in his winding up speech in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today.
He elaborated further that his ministry had received overwhelming support from institutions of higher learning in Sarawak.
To achieve this, the ministry had engaged with Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration Department and Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) on 3rd March, 2022, to discuss the international student’s enrolment to Sarawak.
“Through the Student Application and Registration System (STARS) managed by EMGS, these students are able to obtain guidelines to studying in Malaysia, apply for their international students visa and other necessary travel authorisation online.
“My Ministry will be conducting a series of meetings to streamline the process for foreign students entry into Sarawak,” Sagah said.
EMGS is wholly owned by MOHE and is the official gateway for international students obtaining information to study in Malaysia. – TVS
