Sabah top exporter of palm oil worth RM1.8 bln in March – DOSM

KUALA LUMPUR, May 10 : Malaysia’s palm oil exports amounted to RM7.5 billion in March 2022, with Sabah recording the highest at RM1.8 billion (23.5 per cent), followed by Johor (RM1.7 billion, 23.1 per cent) and Sarawak (RM1.5 billion, 20.3 per cent), the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said. 

In a March 2022 update on export-imports, chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said March exports increased RM26.6 billion (25.4 per cent) compared to the same month a year ago, while imports rose RM24.1 billion (29.9 per cent) in the month under review.

“Among the top five major exporting states, Penang remained as the top exporter with a share of 31.3 per cent, followed by Johor (19.8 per cent), Selangor (18.1 per cent), Sarawak (7.5 per cent) and Kuala Lumpur (4.1 per cent).

“Meanwhile, as for imports, Selangor remained the largest contributor with a share of 25.2 per cent, followed by Penang (22.4 per cent), Johor (19.3 per cent), Kuala Lumpur (6.8 per cent) and Melaka (6.3 per cent),” he said.

In another development, Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the DOSM is conducting a Household Income, Expenditure and Basic Amenities Survey (HIES/BA) 2022 from Jan 1 to Dec 31 this year, and the Annual Economic Survey 2022 (AES 2022) from April 15 to Sept 30, 2022.

The department acknowledges the cooperation by selected respondents to share information with DOSM officials.
