SERIAN, 5 Dec: Close ties forged between the State Government and the Federal Government will ensure development projects be realised here.
Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that this is to ensure the continuity of developments, especially in the state.
Speaking at the opening of the Serian Work Three Package alignment of the Pan Borneo Highway, the Chief Minister noted that many development projects were stalled during the change in power, such as the the construction of Phase Two of the Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway from Pujut to Lawas.
“Even though the second phase of the project were affected due to the power change, but I would like to thank to the Federal Government, especially the Prime Minister.
“This highlights the importance of close relationships between the Federal and State Governments,” Abang Johari said.
The construction of the second phase of the mega project had previously been approved by the then Federal government under Barisan Nasional, but was cancelled when the Federal government changed hands after the 2018 general election.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob during his speech hopes that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition will stay in power in the upcoming 12th state election to ensure that more projects are being implemented.
“I hope GPS still maintains in the administration of Sarawak so that more projects can be implemented in Sarawak.
“To ensure continued development, the State Government and the Federal Government must forge strong ties with each other within the same party,” Sabri said.
Once the construction for the second phase resumed, Serian and its surrounding towns would enjoy improved roads and greater economic development.
The RM700 million alignment of the Serian section in the Pan Borneo Highway is 33.65km long and involved upgrading works on Jalan Persekutuan, from the Serian roundabout to Balai Ringin.
