MUKAH, DEC 4: The opening of the new Mukah Airport will be a key factor in boosting economic activities in serving as a catalyst for local development.
Costing RM450 Million, the airport began it’s operations on 17th June 2021, replacing the small Mukah short take-off and landing airport (STOLport) and was long anticipated by the local community in Mukah.
The Mukah airport was officiated by Prime Minister, Dato Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, witnessed by Sarawak Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“The Mukah Airport has been a dream for the people of Mukah and its surroundings, making Mukah accessible to tourists and visitors. This would also boost the ongoing socioeconomic development in the central region of Sarawak, especially Mukah and it’s surroundings,” Abang Johari said.
Abang Johari also stressed that the state government has already crafted a socioeconomic development plan, focusing on education, tourism and attractions which will indirectly open up multiple economic opportunities in Mukah.
“As we all know, this is RECODA’s area and Mukah is one of the development centres for RECODA, where the state government has a ‘master plan’ to develop the socio-economy of Mukah, based on education, tourism and the attractions in Mukah, including it’s food,” he added.
Abang Johari said this at the opening ceremony of the new Mukah Airport on Saturday December 4, 2021.
He added that the government is planning to continue making such developments, like the upgrading of Lawas, Betong And Kapit airports.
He also expressed appreciation to the ministry of transport for agreeing to build the airport, citing the socioeconomic development that is forthcoming with the availability of the airport. – TVS
