SPAOH, Betong, 24 Nov : The Bebuling Short Take-off and Landing Airport or Bebuling STOLport project here will be launched this coming 30 November.
Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to perform the earth-breaking ceremony for the project during a working visit to the sub-district.
The RM108-million project is one of two new STOLport projects to be implemented in the State, apart from the RM173.5-million Bukit Mabong STOLport in Kapit.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas made a visit to the site for the Bebuling STOLport yesterday.
A local company D.A.L Keluarga Realty Cara Raya JV Sdn Bhd was awarded the contract for its construction.
The project is now at the active stage of site-clearing, and is scheduled to be completed by 16 September 2023.
According to Uggah, the STOLport is part of the State Government’s initiatives to make the State a major food producer and net food exporter by the year 2030.
Spaoh, he said, is part of the greater Betong Food Basket area.
He added that the State Government had also identified the 250-hectare Bebuling area for the implementation of one of the six agroparks in the State which will be using the precision or smart farming method.
“The Bebuling Airport is to cater for the immediate transportation of our agricultural produce to the markets,” said Uggah.
Accompanying him during the visit were former Layar Assemblyman, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, Dr Richard Rapu, and Betong Division Resident, Richard Michael Abunawas.
Also present was the Divisional Public Works Department Engineer, Chiresly Francis Kureng. – TVS
