Travel curb ease as airlines ramp ups flights to Sarawak

KUCHING, Oct 13: The Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee is engaging with relevant agencies and stakeholders to fine-tune the new process entry to Sarawak.

Hence, the updates would further strengthen the process with greater application of IT and user friendly to passengers and travelers as well as the efficiency for the authority to process the data and monitor incoming passengers.

“This will give clear instructions to passengers coming to Sarawak as well as eliminate the congestion and time- consuming process at Sarawak Airports.

“This process is necessary especially the engagement between relevant stakeholders,” said Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin in a statement issued today.

Lee noted that the relevant agencies and stakeholders are the State Government with the Federal Government, Malaysia Aviation Commission (MAVCOM), Civil Aviation Authority Malaysia (CAAM), MAHB, APM, Resident Office and the Airlines to make sure the new schedule will run smoothly according to the plan.

On Monday, Oct 11, State Tourism Arts & Culture Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said SDMC should no longer impose further requirements for interstate travel as the need for police permits has been lifted on.

He lamented that any form of movement restriction was a hindrance to the state Tourism Sector.

Meanwhile, Lee advised future travellers to comply fully with SOPs set by the National Security Council (MKN), Ministry Of Health (MOH) and the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

And hopes with this increased of flight frequencies will ease the movement of travellers to Sarawak as the state is already in the 3rd Phase of the National Recovery Plan.

The new flight frequency and schedule for major airports in Sarawak which the airlines had proposed and approved by MAVCOM to date through aerofile that has taken effect on October 8th, 2021 onwards is shown in the table below.
