Social media users warned of pet scammers

KUALA LUMPUR, 26 Sept: Petaling Jaya District Police received five reports from several individuals who were scammed into contributing to organisations disguised as animal shelters.

Its head police, Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said, on September 22, they received a report from a victim who lost RM15,000 after making payments to two different bank accounts under the name Erlang’s Dog and St Pets Journal.

He added that on September 25, another report was made after the complainant found out about the pet scammer via Facebook.

” Based on the article, the organizations in question are A Pets Journal, Erlang’s Dog, Quan Shelter and Shui Fen Dogs, ” he said in a media statement today.

The police have called upon the public who have donated to the organization to make a report and assist in the investigation.

” At the same time, I would like to advise the public not to be easily deceived by posts asking for donations on social media and the community is advised to check the authenticity first, ” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the penal code. – TVS
