SHAH ALAM, September 23 – A syndicate which has been stealing power supplies for the past few months for bitcoin mining activities here have been rounded up by a team of police from the Selangor State Police Headquarters.
The bust saw the largest seizure of bitcoin set up worth a whopping RM1.282 million for this year.
Selangor Police Chief Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said the operation conducted on September 21 by the police and enaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) Special Engagement Against Losses (SEAL) team successfully raided 30 bitcoin mining sites in eight Selangor districts.
“During the raids, police also arrested nine local men, aged between 18 and 27, who later revealed the other premises where the maintenance of the machines were under their control,” he told a press conference today .
Some 2,137 mining equipment worth RM1.2828 million, 10 laptops, five computer sets, and six ethereum mining graphics cards were confiscated by police.
According to Arjunaidi, investigations revealed that TNB has lost RM24.36 million as a consequence of the unlawful operations since September last year.
The suspects have been remanded between two and four days under Section 379/427 of the Penal Code and Section 37 (1) of the Electric Supply Act 1990.
