MEXICO CITY: Zacango Zoo here has birthed three African lion cubs amidst a rare birth boom in the zoo’s lion enclosure.
The male cub and its two sisters were reported to be in good health since their births nearly two weeks ago.
The cubs are under constant surveillance and are being bottle-fed as their mother struggles to produce milk.
Lions are currently listed as “vulnerable” on the red list of threatened species of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
In West Africa, the species is now classified as “critically endangered”. Any further rapid decline may see lions listed as “endangered” across their range.
