Fadillah: Reappointment to focused on combatting COVID-19

ByYusuf Shukri

KUCHING: The new Federal Cabinet will be taking fast and efficient measures to manage the rising COVID-19 infections that continue to affect many lives throughout the country.

Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said this in a statement following his reappointment as the Works Minister along with three other Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Members of Parliament.

“Our focus is to ensure political stability, to subdue the coronavirus through herd immunity, and to recover the country’s economy so that Malaysia can continue to prosper,” he said.

“Therefore, all parties – civil service, private sectors, the opposition, the public – will need to work hand in hand to make this a successful effort. And I am also thankful to the media for publishing what the Government has done in the fight against COVID-19.”

On his reappointment, Fadillah said he will shoulder the duty with full integrity and responsibility, and is fully aware that the people do not want another failing government.

“As emphasised by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, we will keep the people’s wishes at heart and put aside all of our political differences to ensure they are fulfilled,” added Fadillah who is also the GPS’ Chief Whip.

Meanwhile, State Legislative Assembly Member for Tupong, Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, said with the newly refreshed Cabinet comprising of familiar faces as well as new ones, it will be able to hit the ground running to steer the nation towards recovery.

“I am also pleased to note that for GPS, it has retained the number of ministries and deputy ministerial posts. This shows the Federal Government’s confidence in Sarawak’s leadership to help the nation during this testing times,” he said in a media statement.

“With GPS Parliamentary Chief Whip and Petra Jaya Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, being reappointed as Senior Minister of Works, I believe that it will ensure continuity in development projects that are being undertaken in Sarawak.”

He hoped that this will ensure construction works for the Pan Borneo Highway can resume as it has experienced several major hiccups in recent years.

The Pan Borneo Highway serves as a major complement to other stretches of roads being built across the State, including the Coastal Road Network and the Second Trunk Road.

“It is my hope that this Cabinet can perform for the sake of the nation and deliver. I also hope that the lineup will get the required support from all parties and the general public as we need to focus on the nation and not politics,” added Fazzrudin.
