Masing: CM’s Visit to Nanga Jagau Will Be Highly Appreciated

ByKuan Thai Far

KUCHING: The Chief Minister’s visit to Nanga Jagau, an Iban resettlement area in Ngemah Kanowit, will be highly appreciated and welcomed by the local folks.

Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing expressed his thanks to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari for the visit.

“I am really pleased to know that YAB Chief Minister of Sarawak Abang Jo will finally pay a visit to this Iban resettlement area after 48 years, even though this is an ATM program for YAB Chief Minister to visit the PPV at Nanga Jagau. Nanga Jagau resettlement site was part of ways to defeat the communist insurrection in the 1970s,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.

“It is my hope that YAB Chief Minister can make a special trip to visit Penghulu Johnny and his followers,” Masing added.

“These group of Ibans from Ulu Sungai Ngemah, which at that time was infested by communist terrorists, were asked to move downstream to Nanga Jagau and Nanga Ngungun,” Masing further explained.

The willingness of these Ibans to be resettled at Ngungun & Jagau had made it possible for Sarawakians to live in peace now.

“Therefore, I am so pleased to know that the Sarawak government, after almost half a century, will finally pay its respect to the Ibans in Nanga Jagau,” Masing added.
