ByFreddy Bohari

MIRI: Efforts to vaccinate rural folks fully against the COVID-19 by August this year is being actively carried out in an orderly and well-organised manner.

Daily vaccinations are now being conducted at community halls, schools and health clinics statewide by teams, including mobile ones, from the Health Department.

On Friday, Sarawak Disaster Management Committee( SDMC) chairman, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, visited the vaccination centre at the Bekenu Community Hall to check on the vaccination programme there.

He was supposed to fly to Bario for a similar purpose but had to cancel his trip due to bad weather condition.

Commenting on the programme at Bekenu, he was pleased to note that it was very well-organised and the public had responded  positively to the government’s call for the people to get themselves vaccinated.

“I am very pleased that they realised the importance of the vaccines to them,” said Uggah.

He added that there were five vaccination centres in the Bekenu area, and the one at the community hall has the capacity to provide 1,000 doses daily.

He meanwhile urged elected representatives and community leaders from rural constituencies to continue advising and encouraging people, especially those still hesitant,  in their respective areas to  come forward and get vaccinated.

He said the vaccination is a way to protect the people from the deadly sickness.

“It is being provided free of any charge by the government,”

On the registration process, Uggah said interior folks could  not totally rely on the Mysejahtera apps due to the ocassional technical hiccups.

“So they should follow our Chief Minister’s advice for them to come first to get their jabs and then register  themselves.

“This is more suitable in their scenario,”

Uggah was met by Assistant Minister of Welfare, Community Well-Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Datuk Rosey Yunus and the member of parliament for Sibuti Lukaniaman Awang Sauni.

Also present was Miri Division  Health Officer Dr.Raviwharmman Packierisamy and the medical officer  in charge of the Bekenu vaccination centre Dr.Monica Tan.
