No Police Permit Required For Essential Service Providers In Sibu Division

SIBU, April 21 – No police permit is required for essential service providers and their workers to carry out their operation during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) with enhanced standard operating procedures (SOP) enforced in Sibu Division.

Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee chairman and Sibu Acting Resident Wong Hee Sieng said the enhanced SOP which would be enforced from tomorrow until April 26 also required the operations of these service providers to be limited to 50 per cent of their usual capacity.

“If you are not within the essential services, you are not allowed to open during the period,” he told a press conference here.

Those listed as essential service providers are public services; banking and financial services including licensed money lender/changer; utility service providers (including maintenance); port/aviation/cargo handling; postal service; fuel or gas station/storage/supply; and medical services and pharmacy (including Chinese medicine and herbs stores).

Others included in the list are sewerage services; telephone and telecommunication (including telephone repair and top-up card stores); land and water transport services (50 per cent capacity); food and beverage sale and supply stores; vehicle/ship/boat maintenance services; stationery sale and supply; hotels and lodgings; and agriculture/fisheries/livestock activities.

Wong said all the essential service providers are to operate from 6am to 8pm except for emergency, utility, sewerage and aviation services.

Further information can be obtained by contacting Sibu Police COVID-19 Operations Room at 013-9994158 or 084-323224.

He said although the food and beverages sector is allowed to operate, no dine-in will be allowed during the period.

A police permit is still required for those who wanted to travel inter-district.

By doing away with the permit application, Wong said more police personnel would be assigned to carry out enforcement duties in the division which had witnessed a rise of positive COVID-19 cases since last week.

Wong apologised for the confusion on police permit application among the public earlier and added that the committee will review the essential service list from time to time based on the COVID-19 condition in the division.
